## What is warehouse hiring in Atlanta?

Warehouse hiring in Atlanta is the job of filling picker, forklift operator and material handler openings in a metro where 78,460 people work as hand laborers and material movers and 28,750 operate forklifts and other industrial trucks, according to BLS wage data for May 2025. The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro also employs 50,970 stockers and order fillers. Much of the floor work sits south of the city, where Home Depot runs a 657,600-square-foot distribution center in Locust Grove and Walmart fills online orders from a 1.2 million-square-foot building in Union City.

Classet's AI interviewer, Joy, phones or web-calls an Atlanta applicant the moment they apply, asks about shift, forklift certification and lifting, and sends the site HR team a summary, the transcript and the recording. Your Atlanta site HR lead, not Joy, picks who gets an orientation slot. Atlanta distribution centers, 3PLs and the staffing agencies serving them use Joy for night shifts, weekend shifts and peak ramps.

For an Atlanta distribution center paying near the $44,710 forklift median, the grid means more than half of the applications for a second-shift opening arrive after the site HR office closes. Across Classet accounts, 88% of candidates who start the phone screen finish within 20 minutes of applying, and 88% of the 10,167 candidates who rated a Joy interview rated the experience positively. In a metro with 78,460 material movers, the applicant who gets a call the same evening is the one most likely to show up for orientation at your building instead of the DC across the road.

## How much do Atlanta warehouse workers earn?

Atlanta forklift operators earned a median of $44,710 a year in May 2025, about $21.50 an hour, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics wage survey for the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro. The national forklift median is $22.32 an hour, so an Atlanta site pays a little under the national rate for the same certification. Hand laborers and material movers earned a median of $39,020 (about $18.76 an hour), and stockers and order fillers earned $36,160, or about $17.38.

Packers sat at $34,010, while shipping, receiving and inventory clerks earned $44,850, close to the forklift figure. For recruiting, the spread inside one job matters more than the median. The 90th percentile Atlanta forklift operator earned $63,620 and the 10th percentile earned $36,740, so two job ads for the same reach-truck role can sit $10,000 apart. A picker weighing two Atlanta offers 50 cents apart usually takes the employer who called first.

## Where are Atlanta's distribution centers?

Atlanta's distribution centers cluster along the interstates south and northeast of downtown. According to the Partners Real Estate Q4 2025 Atlanta industrial report, the I-85 South submarket absorbed 2.1 million square feet in 2025, with 1.6 million of it in the fourth quarter, and I-75 South had 2.8 million square feet under construction at year end. Metro industrial vacancy stood at 9.0%. On the I-75 side, Home Depot opened a 657,600-square-foot distribution center off Highway 42 in Locust Grove, Henry County, and hired about 600 associates to replenish stores across the Southeast.

In south Fulton County on the I-85 side, Walmart's 1.2 million-square-foot e-commerce fulfillment center in Union City opened in 2015 with nearly 400 full-time jobs. Up I-85 North, the same Partners report lists a 1.1 million-square-foot Williams-Sonoma renewal at the Braselton Commerce Center. For a site manager in McDonough or Fairburn, the competition for a reach-truck operator is the next building off the same exit.

## Where do Atlanta forklift operators get certified?

Atlanta forklift operators usually get certified through a 2- to 4-week nonprofit course or through training an employer arranges for a new site. Goodwill of North Georgia runs the 2- to 4-week forklift training program with hands-on operation and soft-skills instruction, and lists forklift operator and shipping clerk as the jobs graduates move into. Georgia Quick Start, the workforce training program of the Technical College System of Georgia, built inbound and outbound process training for Walmart's Union City fulfillment center when the site staffed its nearly 400 jobs.

An applicant from either route often has a fresh card and no warehouse employer on the résumé yet, while an operator certified by a previous employer may hold a card that covers only one truck type. Joy asks which program or employer issued the card, the date, and which trucks the training covered, so your team sees the training history before booking orientation.

## What Joy does on an Atlanta warehouse application

Joy is Classet's AI interviewer, and the Atlanta setup follows the [warehouse hiring playbook](/use-cases/warehouse) with local questions added. First, your team writes the must-haves once per role: shift, start date, 50-pound lifting, forklift certification type, RF scanner use, and a commute question such as whether the applicant can reach Locust Grove for a 5 a.m. start. Next, Joy phones or web-calls the applicant the moment they apply and texts a link if the call is missed. Joy asks each question, records the answers, and marks every knockout as met or not met.

The structured summary, transcript and recording then land in Hiring Hub or in your ATS through ATS Sync, which connects to 95 applicant tracking systems. Each must-have comes back Met or Not met, and Fast-track, if you turn it on, flags the strongest fits for a first call; nobody is moved or turned away by software. A site HR lead reads the summary, plays the recording when an answer needs a second listen, and books orientation. Candidates who clear your must-haves can get a text with your open times and book on their phone through [Scheduling](/scheduling), available by request. [Call to Apply](/call-to-apply) adds a hiring number on the truck or sign that Joy answers 24/7. An Atlanta applicant who wants to talk to a human can opt out, and the call routes to your site team.

## Atlanta warehouse roles Joy screens

Joy screens the floor and dock roles Atlanta distribution centers post most, and each screen uses the questions your site cares about.

Forklift operators, at a $44,710 Atlanta median, confirm the certification date and issuer, the trucks run (sit-down counterbalance, stand-up reach, order picker), and dock or high-racking experience. Order pickers and stockers, the 50,970 people at a $36,160 median, answer questions on RF scanner use, pick rate at the last job and standing a 10-hour shift.

Hand laborers and material movers, the largest group at 78,460, cover lifting, trailer loading and unloading, and heat on a Georgia summer dock. Shipping, receiving and inventory clerks, at a $44,850 median, are asked which WMS they used and whether they have done cycle counts. In each case a person on your team reads the knockout results and decides who comes to orientation.

## Frequently asked questions

### How fast can we hire forklift operators in Atlanta?

Hiring speed for an Atlanta forklift opening depends mostly on how fast an employer reaches the applicant. Metro Atlanta has 28,750 forklift and industrial truck operators at a $44,710 median, according to BLS data for May 2025, and an operator with a current card hears from several DCs in the I-85 South and I-75 South corridors in the same week. Joy calls the applicant the moment they apply, including at night and on weekends.

Across Classet accounts, 88% of candidates who start the phone screen finish within 20 minutes of applying, so a Friday-night applicant has a summary in Hiring Hub or your ATS before Saturday morning. The remaining time is yours: a site HR lead reads the summary, confirms the certification card at orientation and makes the offer. Joy does not decide who gets hired.

### Which Atlanta warehouse areas compete hardest for workers?

The I-85 South and I-75 South corridors are where Atlanta warehouse employers compete hardest for the same applicants. According to the Partners Real Estate Q4 2025 report, I-85 South absorbed 2.1 million square feet of industrial space in 2025, and I-75 South had 2.8 million square feet under construction at year end. Home Depot's 657,600-square-foot distribution center in Locust Grove and Walmart's 1.2 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Union City sit in those two corridors.

For a smaller DC or 3PL nearby, the practical answer is speed and clarity. Joy interviews the applicant the moment they apply and states your shift, pay range and site location in the interview, so candidates who cannot make a Henry County commute say so before orientation.

### Does Joy check forklift certifications from Atlanta training programs?

Joy asks about forklift certification and records the answers; Joy does not check a database or verify the card. In an Atlanta interview, Joy asks whether the applicant holds a card, which trucks it covers (sit-down, stand-up reach, order picker), who issued the card and when. Applicants trained through Goodwill of North Georgia's two- to four-week forklift program, or certified by a previous employer, can name the program, and the answer appears in the summary and transcript.

Your team can make a current certification a knockout so applicants without one move to a separate stage in Hiring Hub or your ATS. With 28,750 forklift operators in metro Atlanta, a short knockout list saves your team from reading 50 summaries to find 5 people with current cards. A supervisor checks the physical card at orientation, and a person on your team makes the hiring call.

### Can Joy handle peak-season hiring for an Atlanta distribution center?

Yes. Joy runs interviews in parallel, so 400 applications for an Atlanta peak ramp on a Monday produce 400 interview attempts on Monday, each with a summary and recording. Walmart's Union City fulfillment center opened in 2015 with nearly 400 full-time jobs, which gives a sense of the volume one building can need. Across Classet accounts, 55% of applications arrive outside business hours, and 88% of candidates who start the phone screen finish within 20 minutes of applying.

Your team filters by knockout result, for example night-shift availability and a current forklift card, and books orientation from the applicants who meet each must-have. Only completed interviews are billed, so the unanswered calls in a peak week cost nothing.

### Does Joy work with our ATS or the staffing agency we use in Atlanta?

Yes. Hiring Hub is the built-in option, with a direct Indeed connection, applicant import and a Kanban pipeline, and a single Atlanta site without an ATS can start there. Atlanta operations already on Workday, UKG, iCIMS or another ATS connect through ATS Sync, which supports 95 applicant tracking systems, and Joy's knockout results, summary, transcript and recording post to the applicant's existing record.

Staffing agencies supplying Atlanta DCs use the same connection with Bullhorn or Avionte. A 3PL in Fairburn running a peak ramp with two agencies and a direct-hire posting sees the same knockout fields for a forklift applicant from any source. Industrial distributor Endries International connected an existing ATS in a couple of weeks, as described in the [Endries case study](/blog/case-study-endries-international).

### What does AI phone screening cost for an Atlanta warehouse?

Standalone Classet plans start at $249 a month billed annually ($349 month-to-month) with 50 completed interviews included. Scale costs $999 a month billed annually ($1,399 month-to-month) with 250 completed interviews. Interviews beyond the included number cost $5 each on the standalone plan and $4 on Scale, so an Atlanta DC running a six-week holiday ramp pays for the extra interviews instead of moving to a new tier.

Only completed interviews count toward the total. ATS-integrated deployments for multi-site operations start at $1,995 a month and are scoped in a discovery call based on volume and the systems involved. For comparison, one Atlanta forklift operator at the $44,710 median costs about $3,700 a month in wages.
