Coweta County commissioners approved the 900 MW Project Sail campus in April 2026, per FOX 5 Atlanta, which adds another electrical crew to the metro's demand before the Fayetteville peak ends. Operators are not slowing down either: CBRE reported Atlanta lease rates for 10 MW-plus deployments up 14.5% in the first half of 2026, which tells developers to keep breaking ground. ## Atlanta electrician wages and employment The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro employed 13,430 electricians in May 2025 at a median annual wage of $58,650, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, below the national electrician median of $63,190. The same metro employed 7,060 HVAC mechanics and installers at a median of $58,970. The metro electrician median works out to about $28.20 an hour. That hourly figure is what a superintendent is bidding against. A commercial journeyman earning near the metro median weighs a data center offer on rate, per diem, and schedule, so a posting that states all of them up front gets the callback. Georgia also licenses contractors rather than individual journeymen, which means your first conversation has to establish what the applicant has built, since there is no state journeyman card to look up. ## Who is building data centers in metro Atlanta The metro Atlanta builds pulling the most electricians in late 2026 are QTS's Fayetteville campus, DataBank's Atlanta sites, the Project Sail campus in Coweta County, and Switch's Keep 2.0 campus, which Switch shows under construction. Coweta County commissioners approved Project Sail 3-2 in April 2026: 829 acres, nine buildings, 4.34 million square feet, and 900 MW, per FOX 5 Atlanta. Brasfield & Gorrie, general contractor on DataBank's ATL4 building, reports more than $1.3 billion of completed mission-critical work in Georgia. Each of these campuses needs electrical subcontractors in rough-in at the same time, so the 13,430 electricians the BLS counted in metro Atlanta in May 2025 are fielding calls from several sites at once. A contractor staffing a Fayetteville hall is competing with Coweta County and Cartersville for the same journeymen. ## Where Atlanta data center trades train IBEW Local 613 trains inside wiremen through a registered apprenticeship run by its Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee. The non-union pipeline grew this year: IEC Atlanta & Georgia opened a 27,500-square-foot training center at 330 Research Court in Peachtree Corners in August 2026, sized for about 1,500 electrical apprentices, after graduating its largest class of 152 that summer, according to the North Atlanta Star. For operations roles, Microsoft opened its Datacenter Academy at Atlanta Technical College and West Georgia Technical College on May 20, 2026, with more than $800,000 in support for the Atlanta Technical College site. On the licensing side, Georgia's Construction Industry Licensing Board issues electrical contractor licenses in two classes: Class I for single-phase work up to 200 amperes and Class II unrestricted, each requiring at least four years of electrical experience.
