# Best ATS for High-Volume Warehouse Hiring (2026)

Warehouse teams buy an ATS to fix fill rates and get better reporting instead. Here's how to evaluate applicant tracking systems on the two stages that actually decide whether shifts get covered.

Guides & Insights, AI Recruiting

Warehouse operations leaders buy an applicant tracking system to solve a fill-rate problem and end up with a reporting problem solved instead. The demo goes well because ATS demos are built around requisition workflow, approval chains, and dashboards, all of which matter enormously for corporate roles and almost not at all for filling second shift by Monday.

For high-volume warehouse hiring, only two stages decide whether shifts get covered: whether a mobile applicant finishes the application, and how fast someone talks to them afterward. Evaluate on those and the field narrows fast.

**TLDR:**

- Warehouse hiring lives or dies on mobile apply completion and speed to first contact, not on requisition workflow depth
- Fountain and Workstream are purpose-built for hourly volume; iCIMS, Greenhouse, and Workday are stronger systems of record that need a screening layer bolted on
- SHRM has reported that 92% of people who start an online application never finish it, which is the single largest leak in warehouse funnels
- Bulk scheduling and re-engagement of past applicants matter more than most buyers weight them, because warehouse hiring is seasonal and repetitive
- If you already own an enterprise ATS, adding automated screening is usually cheaper and faster than migrating
- Ask every vendor for median minutes from application to first candidate contact, not average, and not "real-time"

## The Two Stages That Decide Everything

Start with the funnel as it actually behaves for a 2nd-shift picker req.

Someone sees the job on their phone during a break. They tap apply. If the application takes more than a few minutes or bounces them to a desktop-oriented flow, most of them stop. Appcast data [reported by SHRM](https://www.shrm.org/topics-tools/news/talent-acquisition/people-92-never-finish-online-job-applications) puts the drop-off at 92% for people who click apply and never finish, and warehouse applicants skew heavily mobile.

The ones who finish then wait. If your team contacts them the next business day, a meaningful share have already accepted somewhere else, because warehouse and light industrial employers in the same metro are competing for the same people with roughly the same pay. iCIMS' 2025 State of Frontline Hiring report found that 22% of frontline workers left a hiring process over poor or delayed communication, and that 32% of employers lose the most candidates between scheduling and the interview itself.

Everything else your ATS does is downstream of those two stages. A better offer approval workflow doesn't help if nobody made it through the application.

## How the Major Options Compare

Platform

Built for

Mobile apply

Speed to first contact

Best fit

Fountain

Hourly and high-volume

Strong, designed mobile-first

Configurable automated stages

Multi-site warehouse and logistics operators hiring continuously

Workstream

Hourly, heavily restaurant and retail

Strong, SMS-driven

Text-based automation

Franchise and smaller multi-location operators

iCIMS

Enterprise system of record

Configurable, varies by build

Depends on what you add

Large enterprises needing compliance depth across all role types

Greenhouse

Structured corporate hiring

Adequate

Manual by default

Companies where warehouse is a minority of total hiring

Workday Recruiting

Enterprise HCM suite

Functional, not fast

Manual by default

Organizations already standardized on Workday HCM

Existing ATS plus screening layer

Any of the above

Unchanged

Seconds, automated

Teams who don't want a migration

Two honest notes on this table. Fountain and Workstream will beat the enterprise systems on hourly-specific workflow because that's what they were built for, and the enterprise systems will beat them on everything else your HR organization needs. That tradeoff is the actual decision, and it usually gets resolved by whoever has more budget authority rather than by the merits.

The bottom row is the one most teams skip. If you already run [Greenhouse](/integrations/greenhouse), [iCIMS](/integrations/icims), [Workday](/integrations/workday), or [Fountain](/integrations/fountain), you can add automated screening on top without touching the system of record. That's a two-to-three week project rather than a six-month migration, and it addresses the stage where you're actually losing people. Our [ATS migration guide](/blog/ats-migration-guide) covers when a full move is genuinely worth it.

## What to Actually Test in the Demo

Vendor demos run on clean data and a happy path. Bring your own scenario instead.

**Apply from your phone, on cellular, in the parking lot.** Not on office wifi, not on a laptop. Count the taps and the minutes. If it takes more than three minutes, your completion rate will show it.

**Ask for the median minutes from application submitted to first candidate contact.** Vendors will offer "real-time" or an average. The median across all applicants, including the ones who applied at 11 PM, is the number that predicts your fill rate.

**Test bulk scheduling for an orientation cohort.** Warehouse hiring runs in batches. Scheduling forty people into Tuesday's orientation and handling the eleven who reschedule is a real workflow, and some systems handle it beautifully while others make it a spreadsheet.

**Try to re-engage last season's applicants.** Peak hiring repeats. The candidates who were qualified but didn't get an offer in October are your cheapest source in the next surge, and most teams never contact them again. Ask the vendor to demonstrate exactly how that campaign gets built.

**Ask what writes back to the candidate record.** Some integrations read from your ATS and keep results in their own dashboard, which means your recruiters live in two systems and your reporting stays incomplete.

## Where Automated Screening Fits

Whichever system you land on, the apply-to-contact gap needs its own answer. Nobody staffs recruiters at 11 PM on a Sunday, and that's when a lot of warehouse applications arrive.

Classet's Joy calls each applicant within seconds of the application landing, runs a structured voice conversation covering shift availability, equipment experience, certifications like forklift or reach truck, reliable transportation, and whatever knockouts you define. The summary, transcript, and recording sync back into your ATS candidate record through [ATS Sync](/product/joy-sync-ats-plugin), which connects to 100+ ATS platforms without engineering work on your side.

Joy conducts interviews in 25+ languages, which matters for warehouse and light industrial shifts where a meaningful share of applicants prefer Spanish. And Joy doesn't score or rank candidates. You get structured facts plus knockout results, and your recruiter decides, which keeps a person accountable for the hiring call.

If you don't have an ATS at all, Classet includes built-in candidate management: connect your own direct Indeed account, import candidates from a spreadsheet, and manage the pipeline on Kanban boards. The AI interviews are the reason to use it. The pipeline tooling is there so you have somewhere to put the results. We covered that setup in [hiring without an ATS](/blog/hiring-without-an-ats).

## FAQ

What is the best ATS for high-volume warehouse hiring?

For teams hiring hourly warehouse staff continuously across multiple sites, Fountain is the strongest purpose-built option, with Workstream a good fit for smaller multi-location operators. If your organization already runs iCIMS, Greenhouse, or Workday for corporate hiring, the better move is usually adding an automated screening layer on top rather than running a second system. The right answer depends on whether warehouse is most of your hiring or a slice of it.

Do I need a separate ATS for warehouse roles?

Usually not. Running two systems creates duplicate candidate records, split reporting, and confused recruiters. The problem people are trying to solve with a second system is almost always speed and mobile completion, both of which can be fixed on top of your existing ATS. Consider a dedicated hourly platform when warehouse and frontline hiring is the majority of your volume and your enterprise system genuinely cannot support the workflow.

How fast should we contact a warehouse applicant?

Within minutes, and ideally within seconds. Warehouse and light industrial applicants in the same metro are applying to several employers offering similar pay, and the first employer to have a real conversation usually wins. Since a large share of applications arrive evenings and weekends, hitting that window with human recruiters alone means either overnight staffing or automated outbound screening.

What should a warehouse phone screen actually cover?

Shift availability including weekends and overtime, reliable transportation to the site, equipment certifications such as forklift, reach truck, or order picker, comfort with the physical requirements and temperature of the environment, and any steel-toe or PPE requirement. Keep it to five or six questions. Anything longer hurts completion without improving your decision, and the detail belongs in the recruiter conversation that follows.

How long does it take to add AI screening to an existing ATS?

Classet's ATS Sync runs two to three weeks with no engineering work required on your side, across 100+ ATS platforms including Greenhouse, Workday, iCIMS, Fountain, and Bullhorn. Self-serve tiers that don't require an ATS connection launch the same day. Either way it's substantially faster than an ATS migration, which is why it's worth trying before committing to a platform change.

## Next Step

Before you shortlist anything, pull two numbers: your mobile application completion rate, and your median minutes from application to first contact. Whichever is worse is the problem you're actually buying a solution for.

If it's the second one, [book a demo](/demo) and we'll screen candidates on one of your live warehouse reqs so you can compare against your current process. Our [warehouse hiring use case](/use-cases/warehouse) has more on how these teams run it.
